Local Veterinary Company Expands With New Cambridge Practice

CAMBRIDGE, MA — A growing veterinary company has opened a new location in Cambridge following its recent merger with another veterinary provider.

Small Door Veterinary officially opened at 229 Alewife Brook Parkway on Monday, Sept. 28. The opening marks the company's third existing Small Door location in Greater Boston, joining practices in Brookline and Newton Centre, with an additional location planned for Burlington. Cambridge Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new practice.

Small Door offers wellness and sick visits, vaccinations, dental care, diagnostics, surgery, and other veterinary services. The company operates under a membership model that includes an annual exam, 24/7 telehealth access, and reduced pricing for additional exams. However, pet owners can also use its practices without becoming members. The Cambridge location is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

The opening is the first new Small Door practice since the company completed a merger with Bond Vet in July. The two companies announced the merger on July 9, creating a combined organization with more than 55 clinics at the time. Small Door and Bond Vet have continued operating under their respective names, with Small Door co-founder Florent Peyre serving as CEO of the combined company.

Small Door and Bond Vet now operate seven practices across Greater Boston, including Small Door locations in Cambridge, Brookline and Newton Centre and Bond Vet locations in Somerville, Watertown, Lynnfield and Boston's Seaport neighborhood. The companies said the seven locations have collectively served more than 38,000 pets. The combined company has since grown to 59 clinics across its markets.

Small Door opened its first veterinary practice in Manhattan's West Village in 2019 before expanding into other East Coast markets and has since raised more than $60 million from investors. All 13 Small Door practices operating at the time of its merger with Bond Vet were accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association, which reported in August that the combined company planned to pursue accreditation across additional Bond Vet locations.
