Apply To The Fuel Assistance Program In City Of Cambridge

If you need assistance paying your heating bills, the Fuel Assistance Program is accepting applications through May 28, 2021.

To support households encountering financial strain during the COVID-19 pandemic, Eversource and National Grid implemented a utility shutoff moratorium during the past year. Beginning in July 2021, the utility payment moratorium will end. If households have an overdue balance on their accounts at that time, their utility services will be shut off until the balance is paid. Eversource and National Grid are currently notifying residents who have an overdue balance on their account by letter.

If you need assistance paying your heating bills, the Fuel Assistance Program is accepting applications through May 28, 2021 to help low-income Cambridge and Somerville residents pay heating bills accrued between November 1, 2020 and April 30, 2021. Renters and homeowners in both cities are eligible to apply if they meet federal income guidelines.

New applicants are encourage to apply online. Following online submission, applicants will have a phone appointment with Fuel Assistance staff to review their application and confirm eligibility.
In-person application assistance can be provided upon request.

To check the status of your application, call 617-665-6234. You will be prompted to enter your social security number.

If you are in a no-heat situation or facing immediate utility shutoff, fuel assistance can be provided within 24 hours to eligible applicants.
