Bills For Long Overdue Library Materials In City Of Cambridge

You may have received a message from the Minuteman Library Network about charges for long-overdue items.

April 30, 2021

You may have received a message from the Minuteman Library Network (MLN) about charges for long-overdue items. Beginning May 17, MLN will restart billing for library items that are more than four weeks overdue. (This has been the standard policy, but was suspended due to the pandemic.) If you are billed for a long-overdue item, that charge will appear on your library card account.

  • If you return the billed item, the charge will be removed from your account.
  • If you are not able to return the item, you may pay online by credit card or in person by check. We are not able to accept cash.
  • If you are not able to return the item and the bill presents a financial hardship for you, please contact the Main Library at 617-349-4040 or library@cambridgema.gov.
  • If you believe that you have already returned the billed item, please contact the Main Library at 617-349-4040 or library@cambridgema.gov.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Cambridge Public Library has not charged overdue fines on any items checked out of Cambridge locations. This will not change in the foreseeable future. To be clear: if you return an item that was checked out of one of the Cambridge Public Library locations, you will not owe any money, even if it is returned after its due date.
