City Winery Boston presents Marshall Crenshaw live on November 11th at 7:30pm.
Plus Sarah Borges & Eric Ambel.
Few songwriters from the early '80s have aged as well as Marshall Crenshaw — and fewer still sound this good in a room where you can actually watch their hands on the guitar.
Crenshaw is the kind of live performer who makes you remember why you fell for guitar-driven songwriting in the first place. The craft is right there on the surface: the chord changes that feel inevitable, the melodies that stick before the song is over, the voice that hasn't lost a step. Over thirteen albums and thousands of performances, he's never stopped refining what he does — and what he does is write and play songs that hold up.
Expect the classics — "Someday, Someway," "Cynical Girl," "Whenever You're On My Mind" — alongside the deeper cuts that reward the fans who've been showing up for decades. This is the rare artist whose catalog gets better the more you know it, and a live set at City Winery is one of the better ways to find that out. The room is the right size. The sound is the right kind of close. And there's something to be said for hearing songs this well-made in a place that takes both the music and the meal seriously.
Come with someone who appreciates a song done right.
