Cambridge artist Alexander Knutrud: Giving Dreams the Force of Life at Agora Gallery NYC

NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea's Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Cambridge artist Alexander Knutrud in Mélange of Milieu.

In Alexander Knutrud’s paintings, dreams and fantasies take on a vibrant physical presence. While he shows a strong ability to illustrate the contours of realism in his work, the artist puts those skills to use in works that depict a world existing outside the boundaries of reality. Mythical creatures will float through a moody sky, or a dreamlike building will emerge from the pages of a book. Equally influenced by nature and science fiction, he brings the essence of both alive. Knutrud says that he aims to show his lucid dreams in his paintings, and he succeeds at that goal.

Employing deep, rich colors and giving his paintings a fully realized sense of depth and space, Knutrud provides each image with a tactile quality that grounds even the most fantastical scene. Working in oils, acrylics and watercolors on paper, canvas and board, the artist captures a wide variety of textures, juxtaposing sharp lines with soft areas of color. The resulting works have a stylistic density and variety that mirrors their boundary-crossing themes. Knutrud lives and works in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
