Cambridge To Collect Hazardous Household Waste At Danhey Park

Items accepted on Sept. 7 range from tires to pesticides to mercury thermometers.

CAMBRIDGE, MA — Cambridge Public Works will hold a household hazardous waste collection day for items not suitable for regular trash collection on Sept. 7 at Danehy Park. The collection is open to Cambridge residents only.

Those who have no proof of residency or are property managers bringing more than 25 pounds or 25 gallons from a residential building in the city are asked to contact recycle@cambridgema.gov in advance.

Items accept at the Field Street Lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. include: vehicle and non-alkaline batteries, antifreeze, brake fluid, engine car engine degreaser and transmission fluid, tires (maximum four per household), cleaning chemicals, glues, removers, photography chemicals and swimming pool chemicals, fluorescent light bulbs, mercury thermometers and thermostats, old-based and latex paints, insecticides pesticides and weed killers, medications, propane cylinders 20 pounds or less and fire extinguishers.

Prescription medications can also be dropped off year-round to Cambridge Police at 125 Sixth St.

Items not accepted include: alkaline batteries, ammunition, fireworks, explosives, items with asbestos, bleach, ammonia, commercial or industrial waste, construction debris, empty aerosol cans, infectious or biological waste, radioactive waste, smoke detectors and syringes.

This is the third of four collections this year with the final one of 2019 scheduled for Nov. 2 at Danehy Park.
