May is National Older Adults Month, a time to recognize the important contributions that older adults make in communities across the country. This year’s National Older Adults Month theme is “Communities of Strength,” and over the past year, the Cambridge Council on Aging (COA) has witnessed the strength and resiliency of older adults in Cambridge firsthand.

When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted in-person programing at COA, staff and instructors quickly adapted to new technology to offer a variety of virtual programming, including yoga, watercolor painting, Spanish, Zumba, dance classes, and more. More than 1,000 seniors have participated in COA’s virtual classes and continue to log into Zoom each week to connect with one another from home.
“Our virtual programming has allowed our Cambridge Senior Community to be connected and engaged,” says Susan Pacheco, Executive Director of the Cambridge Council on Aging. “It has served as a support and has inspired many to thrive in social connection during a period where many felt isolated.”
