Cambridge Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui Celebrates Women's History Month With Upper School Student Art Contest Winners

Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui awarded prizes to four 6th to 8th grade students for her Office’s Women’s History Month art contest, held in March.

The contest was open to all 6th to 8th students in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Students were encouraged to submit original visual, written or video artwork to celebrate Women’s History Month.

“The arts are so important and honoring the accomplishments of women in history is something I want our youth to celebrate through storytelling and the creation of their own art,” said Mayor Siddiqui. “Every submitted piece of art for this contest was inspiring, moving and beautiful.”

Nearly 20 pieces of art were submitted to the contest, with four winners announced for the three categories:

• Visual Art: Sarah Suarez - Putnam Avenue Upper School
• Short Story: Ava Weinstein - Vassal Lane Upper School
• Poetry: Jennifer Etienne - Cambridge Street Upper School
• Poetry: Sana Patel - Cambridge Street Upper School

Mayor Siddiqui honored the winners of the contest with a presentation of a Certificate and their winning prize at City Hall. For all contestants, Mayor provided Certificates and sketchbooks to encourage every participant to continue channeling creative thinking and art in their daily lives.
