Greetings CPS community -

"The new school year is right around the corner! Today, I had the pleasure of introducing myself to the newest members of the CPS family at our new teacher orientation.

Find out what's happening in Cambridgefor free with the latest updates from Patch.

In this week’s video message, I shared answers to two questions we heard a lot about last week:

1. Was there a large COVID breakout (referred to as a cluster by the public health department) in CPS Summer School?

While there were several quickly-identified and contained cases, there were no large COVID breakouts in CPS programs this summer. You may have read about a cluster of cases connected to a summer program operated by one of Cambridge’s nonprofit organizations.

2. What will CPS do to prevent those types of breakouts in schools this fall?

CPS has many layers of protection that work together to help PREVENT the spread of the virus and to DETECT infections early to prevent outbreaks. These measures include comprehensive testing, masking, ventilation improvements, robust contact tracing and quarantine protocols, and other actions. CPS has a full year of experience working with the public health department, our school principals, staff and families to ensure safety, identify positive cases and take swift action to minimize the spread of COVID-19. See www.cpsd.us/covid19 for more information.

For the health and safety of our community and schools, we need everyone to do their part. What can you and your family do?

Get vaccinated. Wear your mask. Wash your hands. Do not go to work or school if you have symptoms. Get tested if you have symptoms or have been exposed to someone with COVID.

As I share in my video message, CPS will remain vigilant. We will be proactive. We will keep you informed. And we will get through this together.

Make it great!"

Dr. Victoria L. Greer

Interim Superintendent
