Cambridge Students Hold Walkout To Protest Gun Violence
Hundreds of students walked out at 8:17 a.m. Wednesday in memory of the victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School attack.

CAMBRIDGE, MA – Hundreds of students at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School staged a walkout Wednesday morning to protest gun violence in the wake of the Parkland school shooting. According to the Boston Globe, more than 400 teenagers walked out at 8:17 a.m. and sat in silence for 17 minutes in remembrance of the 17 people killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Feb. 14.
The walkout comes on the heels of a protest held at Somerville High School a week ago, where activists from the newly formed "Students Against Gun Violence" group led their classmates in a demonstration that culminated in writing, emailing and calling members of Congress.
Students at Somerville High helped plan the walkout in Cambridge, according to the Globe. Marchers met with teenagers from Somerville in Union Square Wednesday, and the demonstration is expected to expand to other nearby schools next week for a national walkout.

Some students held signs calling on adults, namely those in elected positions, to help make schools safer. Signs included "Silence = complicity" and "Adults like us when we have strong test scores but they hate us when we have strong opinions," the Globe reported.
