Explore Harvard Square and the Harvard University campus

A free self guided tour to walk in this part of Cambridge, complete with a map, some photos, and detailed explanations of what you'll see.

A strange building

Ever wonder what this building is? Need an idea to spend a few hours walking in and around Harvard Square, discover unknown part of the city, and find museums you did not think about? A few months ago, Walk in Boston expanded its scope to include two tours exploring the Cambridge area, and it's now time to tell you about one of them, the Walk in Boston # 18, Venerable Harvard.

To summon it in a few words, it's a 1h30 to 5h tour (depending on the time you’ll spend in museums and galleries,) that will allow you to say you went to Harvard University! Is it not worth it?

On your way, you’ll see shady yards and secluded courtyards, enter respectable buildings, visit six museums and a gallery of design, sample a community garden, and admire many outdoor sculptures. You'll finish your day shopping or sampling the fare of a local restaurant (list of restaurants not included!), except if you want to explore more and head further East to do the Walk in Boston # 4, Sculpture, Art and Architecture at MIT (and be able to not only say you went to Harvard and MIT, but compare them).

The tour is often on the campus site, indoor and outdoor, and the map provided is an approximation of the general way you should go as all the alleys are not indicated.

There are detailed descriptions to help you navigate the trail, and if you still manage to get lost, it will just add to the adventure, will it not?

The best way to do it is to bring your cell phone with you as it will allow you to follow the trail steps by steps, but if you can memorize everything beforehand, bravo, you surely deserve to be at Harvard!

Now, for the name and history of the building above, you ask me. Well, you'll have to go and reach the end of the tour to find them!

Bon voyage!
