Fire At Cambridge Church On Easter Sunday

CAMBRIDGE, MA — Emergency crews were fighting a five-alarm fire Easter Sunday at Faith Lutheran Church in Cambridge, according to authorities.

The Cambridge Fire Department tweeted around 5:30 p.m. that there was a blaze in a building in the 300 block of Broadway, later confirmed to be the church. The fire had escalated to five alarms as of about 6:30 p.m.

The church, which celebrated Easter service at 10 a.m. Sunday, was captured on video as smoke poured from its steeple windows in a recording posted Sunday evening to Twitter.

Cambridge police were assisting with traffic control and tweeted as of about 7:30 p.m. that the following streets were closed:

  • Broadway from Inman to Columbia streets
  • Prospect Street from Harvard Street to Gardner Road
  • Tremont Street from Hampshire Street to Broadway.
