Manhole Smoke: Road Reopens, Investigation Still Underway

Part of Concord Ave in Cambridge shut down while fire, police and Eversource investigated a possible manhole explosion.

CAMBRIDGE, MA — Concord Avenue is back open after police closed it between Huron and Madison so that police, fire and the gas company could investigate reports of smoke coming from a manhole nearby.

Just before 11 a.m. reports came in about a possible manhole explosion near 181 Concord Ave. At noon the road was back open, but Eversource had shut the power to the commercial building at 181 Concord.

Work is being done in the area. But no word on what may have caused the smoke, or an explosion, according to police.
