Featuring in-person, online and hybrid course formats, Middlesex Community College’s Fall 2021 course offerings fit the needs of all students. With options that work best for them, Middlesex students can reach their goals faster – without having to pay four-year college tuition prices. Registration for the Fall 2021 semester is now open.

Understanding that every student has different learning styles, MCC is offering a variety of flexible course options. From the start of the pandemic, the college has built upon its 21-year history of success with online learning to provide effective online classes, and followed health and safety protocols to ensure that students have continued access to courses, spaces and resources.

“Faculty are creating a variety of class structures to be offered so that students can sign up for the courses that they need, in the way that they need them,” said Joanna DelMonaco, MCC Professor of Mathematics. “Students can find the same course offered in many different modalities – on campus, online or a little of both. Fall will be full of opportunities for student learning in a variety of ways!”

MCC’s Fall 2021 semester will use six course delivery formats. Each format is specially assigned to courses depending on what works best for student learning and safety.

  • Online and On-Campus Lecture – These hybrid (blended) classes combine on-campus and online instruction.
  • Online and On-Campus Lab – These hybrid (blended) classes combine online instruction and on-campus labs.
  • Lecture – This is a traditional on-campus face-to-face course. Classes meet weekly on campus with students and instructors.
  • Lecture and Lab – This is a traditional on-campus face-to-face course and lab. Classes meet weekly on campus with students and instructors.
  • Online with Class Meeting Times – This is a fully online class format with scheduled meeting days and times. Students must be online during scheduled meeting times.
  • Online with No Class Meeting Times – This is a fully online class format. There are no scheduled meeting days or times. Lectures, lessons and exercises are completed online, over the course of the semester.

In preparation for the Fall semester, MCC has invested in their faculty to assist in the creation of high-quality courses with online components, according to DelMonaco. Classes will embed tutors to provide on demand assistance with the technology of the course, as well as help with content.

Whether online and on-campus, the college will also support students by offering access to Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders – peer tutors who are connected to the course and host organized tutoring sessions for students in that class.

Middlesex will continue following guidelines provided by the CDC and Governor Baker to ensure that the MCC community remains healthy and safe when visiting the Bedford or Lowell campus. Students coming to campus will be in a controlled setting, following MCC’s strict safety practices, including social distancing and mask wearing.

The Fall 2021 semester begins on Wednesday, September 8. For more information and to register for classes, visit www.middlesex.mass.edu/registration/ or call 1-800-818-3434.
