Inspired by the commitment and dedication students make to earn their degrees and finish their programs, Middlesex Community College is honored to play a part in their academic journeys. Middlesex’s 2021 Commencement will once again be virtual as the pandemic continues to prevent the college from hosting in-person events.

A virtual Commencement ensures each graduate will be recognized, while all students, faculty and staff remain safe. MCC’s 2021 graduation video will premiere live at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 27 on LTC channel 8 or MCC’s YouTube channel.

In learning how to adapt to circumstances presented by the pandemic, the Middlesex class of 2021 has earned “unique skills and grit,” according to Pamela Flaherty, MCC’s Associate Vice President for Student Affairs & Dean of Students. She believes this determination and flexibility will help them be innovative and successful leaders in the future.

“MCC students persevere, and this has never been truer than throughout this past year,” Flaherty said. “At this year’s Commencement, we are excited to celebrate the accomplishments they have made, highlight the strength they have shown, and wish them well as they continue on with their educational and professional pursuits.”

As Middlesex celebrated 50 years on September 24, 2020, the virtual Commencement will feature a photo retrospective of MCC students from the last 50 years, student speakers, and special video messages from faculty, staff and the community.

To help celebrate, all graduates who complete the graduation application process by April 30, 2021, will automatically receive a special graduation box in the mail. The box will include a 2021 tassel, a keepsake graduation cap and an invitation to the Alumni Association among other items.

Eligible MCC graduates will also have the opportunity to have their photographs taken on campus in May 2021. As a gift from the college, students will receive a free 5x7 photo shipped to them along with proofs to purchase additional photos.

To make this year’s Commencement more personal, MCC’s Office of Marketing Communications has created digital ways for graduates and their families to celebrate, including details for how to host virtual watch parties and downloadable social media graphics and posters.
