MIT Bomb Threat Follows Harvard 'Swatting'
A bomb threat was called in at an MIT dorm early Wednesday morning, resulting in the building being evacuated.
CAMBRIDGE, MA — A bomb threat was called in at an MIT dorm early Wednesday morning, WHDH 7-News. Students at Simmons Hall woke up around 2:30 a.m. to fire alarms going off.
Some of the students told WHDH 7-News that they didn't think it was serious until the university alerted them that there was a bomb threat.
The building was evacuated while emergency responders searched the building. Students were later allowed back into the building.

The news comes shortly after a "swatting" call was made at a Harvard University dorm. Police showed up in riot gear with guns drawn at a Harvard University dorm room early Monday morning in what ended up being a false alarm due to a swatting call, WHDH 7-News reported.
Swatting calls are an increasing problem in Massachusetts and across the country. State police said up to 28 communities were the target of swatting calls. High schools in Milford, Medway, Framingham, Mansfield, and Melrose were all targeted by the calls.
