Planet Fitness To Open In Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, MA – Planet Fitness is bringing a gym to Cambridge, the company announced Friday. The chain of "judgement-free" gyms will open its newest location at 1815 Massachusetts Ave. in University Hall on Lesley University's Porter Campus. An exact date has not been set, but a press release said the gym expects to open in late January.

The 15,000-square-foot space will offer 70 pieces of cardio equipment, strength equipment and free weights, a private tanning salon with booths and beds, total body enhancement equipment like red light therapy, HydroMassage loungers and massage chairs, a PF SYNRGY 360 Functional Training System, locker rooms with day lockers and showers and more.

Ahead of its opening, Planet Fitness is inviting residents to register online at www.planetfitness.com or at the pre-sale space (located below street level, next to where the club will open) for $1 down and then $10 a month with no annual commitment from now through Feb. 4. The pre-sale office is open from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Prospective members can also visit the club’s information kiosk located in the lobby of University Hall next to Porter Café to speak with Planet Fitness staff and learn more about the plans for the new club and its vast array of amenities.

The club will be open 24 hours a day Monday-Thursday and close at 10 p.m. on Friday. Its weekend hours are 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

The "judgement-free" chain provides members with a hassle-free, non-intimidating environment and uses a "Lunk Alarm" to remind members that grunting, dropping weights or judging others is prohibited, according to a press release.
