Dear CPS community,

"I am writing with a heavy heart to share terrible news that Xavier Louis-Jacques, a recent CRLS graduate, was the victim of a fatal shooting this weekend in North Cambridge. Xavier was a member of the Class of 2020, and attended the Rindge Avenue Upper Campus and Peabody schools.

Like you, I am deeply saddened by the loss of another young life. Our thoughts are with Xavier’s loved ones and those who knew him best.

CRLS, RAUC, and Peabody school leaders have coordinated resources and plans to support both remote and in-person students and staff as they experience the complex emotions that come with such difficult situations.

For families who may be looking for support talking with their child about this news, you might find this resource from Riverside Trauma Center and Samaritans Talking with Your Children About Traumatic Events helpful. Riverside also offers a 24-hour assistance by calling 1-888-851-2451 and selecting option #2 to be connected to a Trauma Center Manager.

In difficult times, our school communities can be a place of support and healing. Continue to look out for and take care of one another."

Sincerely,

Kenneth N. Salim, Ed.D.
Superintendent
