Canton Firefighter Graduates From Massachusetts Fire Academy

CANTON, MA — A first responder in Canton has completed the Massachusetts Fire Academy's Career Recruit Firefighting Training Program.

Canton Firefighter Mathew Pigeon graduated on Friday as one of 20 firefighters representing 12 departments in Career Recruit Class BW40. The ceremony was held at the Department of Fire Services' Bridgewater campus.

During the 50-day program, recruits trained under non-fire and controlled-fire conditions. They demonstrated skills in life safety, search and rescue, ladder operations, water supply, pump operation and fire attack.

Graduates are now certified as Firefighter I and II and in hazardous materials operations.

"The training he received during the 50-day program has provided him with the knowledge and skills needed to start protecting life and property in our community," Canton Fire Chief Jamie Meier said.

Pigeon's first shift with the Canton Fire Department will be on Friday.

The graduating class also included firefighters from Bourne, Braintree, Hull, Lakeville, Norfolk, Norton, Sharon, Truro, Walpole, Wellfleet and Yarmouth.
