CANTON, MA — A planned gathering space and podcast studio for young people at the Canton Public Library has received a major funding boost.
Bank of Canton donated $100,000 to the library's Next Chapter Capital Campaign, the bank announced on Tuesday. The money will support the library's third phase of renovations, including a new communal learning area for teens and tweens.
The donation will help build and furnish the Bank of Canton Learning Pavilion, a large tiered structure planned for the new young adult room. The pavilion will include collaborative activity and gathering space, along with a ground-level meeting room and podcast studio, according to the bank.
The young adult room, which will replace the current reference room, is also expected to feature study pods, a large video screen and sound-absorbing materials.
Library Board of Trustees Chair Peg Mead said the donation would help the library adapt its space and programming to meet patrons' changing needs.
Other work planned during the interior renovation includes repairs to water-damaged areas, additional quiet study rooms, flexible meeting spaces and a redesigned circulation desk. The project is scheduled to be completed in fall 2027.
The renovation is supported through a mix of town funding, grants and private donations. The Canton Public Library approved final funding for the interior work at Town Meeting in May.
