Canton Earns Financial Reporting Award For 20th Consecutive Year

CANTON, MA — Canton's Finance Department has reached a two-decade milestone in municipal financial reporting transparency.

Canton received the Government Finance Officers Association's Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting on Monday for its annual comprehensive financial report covering the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2025. It is the 20th consecutive year Canton has earned the distinction.

The association represents more than 28,000 public finance professionals in the U.S. and Canada. An impartial panel determined that Canton's report met the program's standards, including demonstrating a "spirit of full disclosure" and clearly communicating the town's financial story, the association said.

The certificate is the association's highest recognition for governmental accounting and financial reporting. Established in 1945, the program encourages state and local governments to produce accurate and comprehensive reports promoting transparency and full disclosure.

"This is a milestone, and it sets the bar for years to come," Finance Director Allyson Podgurski said, crediting the Finance Department staff's work and professionalism.
