Blue Hills Regional Engineering Students Excel at MATE Eastern Regional Underwater Robotic Competition

Juniors from the Department of Engineering from Blue Hills Regional Technical School in Canton recently competed in the Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Eastern Regional Underwater Robotic Competition at Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Bourne, Mass. The robot performed perfectly under the expert piloting of student Zach Francis (Dedham) and student co-pilot Allen McIntosh (Braintree) and won 1st place in the pool mission.

Mission specialists students Rondeesha Lee (Randolph), Kerlens Mathelier (Randolph), Daqwan Burns (Randolph), Isaac Ward (Randolph), and Brandt Adley (Milton) all performed their individual duties to complete the extraordinary finish. Students Nassim Zamor (Randolph) and Demaris Hopkins (Milton) completed the poster for the judges’ viewing.

The students received first place in the Judges’ Engineering Award for the best robot design elements and finished third in the overall competition with a total point spread of 20 points separating the top three teams. These fine students for a fantastic job of representing our school, said Lead Engineering Instructor Dr. Michael Meyers and Engineering Instructor Dan Hamill.  Both of these excellent teachers worked very long and hard to prepare the students, and deserve great credit for their dedication and superb efforts.
