This team with the big heart and selfless attitude got together one more time on Friday, May 17 at the school to bid farewell to their outstanding season and celebrate the intense bonds of friendship that have been forged between each of the players as well as their coaches: Thomas McGrath (Mayflower Conference Coach of the Year and the Boston Globe’s All-Scholastic Girls Basketball Coach of the Year for Division 4); also, junior varsity girls’ basketball coach Nicole Flynn; freshman girls’ basketball coach Katherine Sullivan; trainer and announcer Jamie Arnstein; and Athletic Director Ed Catabia.
Of the ten girls on the team, six are seniors who are graduating in June: Amanda Donohue, Melonie Fedorchuk, Jenessa Merard, Kristen Peterson, Bethany Richards and Rachael Straehle.
The Lady Warriors notched a dazzling record of 23-1 this season, going undefeated in the Mayflower League and emerging as State Vocational Champions for the second consecutive year.
They were finally edged by Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School in the Division 4 South Sectional semifinal game on March 5, falling short by a score of 57-42.
The banquet and awards event was attended by the team and their families, all of whom looked on with pride as gold statuettes were handed out for exceptional talent and consistency, team spirit, leadership, and sportsmanship.
