Canton Dunkin' Donuts found cleanest of all metro Boston coffee shops

Boston startup Mobee today announced that the Dunkin’ Donuts at 360 Turnpike Street in Canton is the cleanest coffee shop in the metro Boston area. The crowdsourced data, which reports the top ten cleanest and dirtiest coffee shops in metro Boston, was gathered through the company’s "smartphone army" of users completing Mobee "missions" at almost 500 coffee shops in the area. The data shows some pretty interesting trends – for example, none of the top five cleanest coffee shops in the area are actually located in Boston proper.

Mobee, which launched in Boston in October 2011, has more than 20,000 users in the metro Boston area alone and is taking the archaic $1.5 billion mystery shopping industry head on.

Various coffee shop companies were surveyed including Flat Back Coffee, Starbucks, and Boston Common Coffee, but Dunkin’ Donuts appears most on the list due to the volume of stores in the area. The location at 360 Turnpike Street in Canton tops the list by receiving the highest possible rating for cleanliness according to 100% of Mobee missions completed at the location. The Dunkin’ Donuts at 850 Harrison Avenue in Roxbury received a “dirty” rating by 73% of customers – the most out of any other location.

“The mystery shopping industry is archaic,” said Prahar Shah, CEO of Mobee. “With our proprietary technology and passionate user base, we’re turning this pen-and-paper industry on its head. Mobee provides business owners with data they can’t get anywhere else. We’re not only changing the way Boston does business, we’re making Boston better.”

Mobee provides businesses with reliable intelligence from existing customers that allows brands to uphold company standards across multiple locations by enlisting a “smartphone army” to quickly report on Key Performance Indicators (KPI) like quality/speed of service, training, merchandising, cleanliness, and overall experience. The GPS-enabled verification and real-time data allow clients to gain reliable insights to drive real change and allow store managers and owners to improve stores and provide a better value and experience to customers. The startup launched in Boston in October 2011 and already has more than 20,000 users in the metro Boston area who are rewarded with cash and prizes for completing missions at businesses they visit every day. They plan to expand to other cities in the next few months.

Note: Report based on at least 15 approved Mobee missions per location completed between January 1, 2013 and April 8, 2013. Ratings based on a 5-point scale. For complete methodology, contact lchristo@451marketing.com.
