Get tax refunds fast and free!

United Way and its partners connect wage earning families with opportunities to increase their income through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) campaign. VITA offers free tax help for households with an annual income up to $50,000. Refunds will be available in 7-10 days.

Those who are eligible can call 2-1-1 for a list of VITA site locations and to set up an appointment locally. 

VITA sites operate during convenient times and free tax assistance is also available in Spanish and Polish at some sites. IRS-trained volunteers help prepare and electronically file state and federal income tax forms at no charge and determine qualification for tax credits and refunds, including the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), available for lower-to-moderate wage earning families. The state and federal EITC combined may average up to $2,181 for working families.

Last year, VITA volunteers served more than 9,400 taxpayers in United Way’s 40-town region, resulting in $22.6 million in refunds and credits to working families, including $6.5 million in the state and federal Earned Income Tax Credit.
