Seniors in Design & Visual Communications at Blue Hills Regional Technical School in Canton Held 6th Annual Art Show for the Public

By Judy Bass

Every year, talented seniors in the Design & Visual Communications (DVC) program at Blue Hills Regional Technical School in Canton transform the school’s gymnasium into a colorful, attractive art gallery complete with sculpture, paintings, and photographs.  They then eagerly invite family, friends and the public to attend a memorable show featuring their finest work.

This year, the participating students were Nicholas Bates (Randolph), Randi Crews (Milton), Anthony Delaporta (Norwood), Shawn Exilus (Randolph), Nathan Francisco (Randolph), Ken-Lee Mercury (Milton), Rachael Ward (Holbrook) and Eric Manning (an Engineering student from Canton who was a guest participant).

Nick Bates, one of the participants, said, “"The art show was an awesome event. I'm sad that I only got to do it once.”  Another student, Shawn Exilus, remarked, “Blue Hills unlocked a new creative side of me and challenged me to meet my greatest potential."

The DVC curriculum is taught by instructors Joann Murphy and Joanne Wayland.

Murphy also expressed laudatory comments about the event.  "The students were so professional as they each spoke about their work to those who attended the show.”

Several of the students will be continuing their education in the arts. Many Blue Hills seniors in DVC have pursued their education in the following fields: animation, film and video, game art, graphic design, photography and fashion design.

They have attended these and other outstanding colleges and universities: Brandeis University, Bridgewater State University, Colby-Sawyer College, the Ringling School of Art, The Art Institute of Boston, Salem State University, Newberry College, Wheelock College, Bentley University, Montserrat College of Art, Full Sail University, the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and Massasoit Community College.
