Speaking Event: The Work & Wisdom of Aging in Fiction and Nonfiction, May 15 at Hebrew SeniorLife's Orchard Cove
The saying goes that age brings about wisdom, and Hebrew SeniorLife, the largest provider of healthcare and housing in New England, is out to prove this statement true. HSL invites you to attend the second session of its spring 2013 College of Retirement Living series, “The Work and Wisdom of Aging in Fiction and Nonfiction.”
On Wednesday, May 15, from 1:30–3 p.m., HSL’s Orchard Cove in Canton, Mass. will host Caitrin Lynch, an associate professor of cultural anthropology at Needham’s Olin College of Engineering, and William Martin, a local, award-winning New York Times bestselling author.

Caitrin spent five years doing field work at Needham’s Vita Needle Company, whose median employee age is 74. Her book, “Retirement on the Line: Age, Work and Value in an American Factory,” explores what this unusual company's commitment to an elderly workforce means for the employer, the workers, the community, and society. Caitrin will discuss her book, as well as its insights on the importance of work, productivity and purpose in the lives of these older adults.

William specializes in historical fiction and was the 2005 recipient of the prestigious New England Book Award. He will discuss how his stories of the great and the anonymous in American history include characters whose age and wisdom influenced their motives and actions.
Tickets are $25 and allow admission to all three of the College of Retirement Living sessions. Visit www.hslindependentliving.org/celebration-of-aging to learn more.
