Victor Del Vecchio Announces His Bid for Re-Election as Canton Selectman

PRESS RELEASE

On February 7, 2011 formally announced his candidacy for re-election to Canton’s Board of Selectmen.  The election is Tuesday, April 5, 2011.

Del Vecchio, age 56, has called Canton home for more than 25 years.  He has served continuously on the Board of Selectmen since 2002, three years as its Chairman.  Del Vecchio and his wife, Lisa Lopez, are empty nesters now, but credit Canton as a wonderful community in which to have raised their family of three children and various beloved dogs, cats, ducks, birds and other pets, adding “Canton has been very good to us; I serve on the Board of Selectmen as one way to give back.”

“These remain challenging times for Canton and many other Massachusetts communities where there is not enough money to do all we wish for our communities.  Though the economy appears to be improving, we know we still have tough choices to make.  I pledge my continued willingness to listen with respect, consider all inputs and act decisively.  Fortunately, we’ve been able to stretch municipal dollars and identify opportunities for new sources of revenue.  For example, we recently approved the region’s largest state of the art solar farm, improving the Town’s energy efficiency and locking in millions in revenues over the next 25 years.  We also recently negotiated the transfer of ownership of Reservoir Pond to the Town and repair of its dam at no cost to the Town.  And let’s remember, not all the decisions that require strong leadership are about money.  Planning for the future does not involve spending current dollars; but it can be just as challenging to forge a consensus that takes into consideration many different views, all of them well meaning.”

He continued, “even though we had an uphill battle on the Westwood Station Project, the Town of Canton has so far successfully prevented a project that would have added thousands of cars daily to Canton roadways without appropriate infrastructure. Together with the other Selectmen and Town boards, we will continue to be vigilant in protecting Canton’s interests.”
