Area Fire Departments Assists with Four Alarm Fire at Miller Recycling in Mansfield [VIDEO]

Local fire departments, including Canton, called in for extra support to fight fire at Miller Recycling Plant.

The , along with area departments including , battled a four-alarm fire that broke out at the paper recycling plant on 73 Plymouth Street in Mansfield Tuesday night.

The blaze drew so much manpower from the surrounding areas because of the size of the building, and the hazards a paper recycling plant presents, Mansfield Fire Chief Neal Boldrighini said.

"It's like a horizontal high rise," he said.

No one was in the building at the time of the fire. One Mansfield firefighter was treated on scene for minor smoke inhalation and later taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Boldrighini said.

The fire started sometime around 7:30 p.m., the chief said. As of 10 p.m., he said that the fire itself was mostly out, but the bigger problem was that the paper storage was extremely dense, which required more checks and manpower to make sure the fire was no longer a threat.

"We're going to be in holding companies for a very long time digging this out," he said Tuesday night.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Boldrighini said.

Firefighters and other emergency personnel were expected to be on scene for most of the night to help clear out the immense amount of smoke and start a more detailed investigation into the cause of the fire.

Other Fire and EMS companies from the surrounding area assisted with fighting the fire, including , , , , Taunton, Norfolk, Plainville, North Attleboro, , Walpole and .

Many of the firefighters on scene also aided in a during last winter.
