Boston College High Celebrates the Successful 150th Anniversary Campaign

Chairman John Murphy of the Back Bay honored by President William Kemeza

Colleen Carter, Interim Vice President for Institutional Advancement of Boston College High, on Saturday, October 29 at a gala dinner celebration at Cadigan Hall on the Dorchester campus, announced the
close of the most successful fundraising effort in the school's history.

In 2011, when the campaign began, the goal was to raise $75 million, the largest comprehensive campaign ever undertaken by a Catholic school in New England—a $75 million effort to enable the Jesuit school to meet 100% of student financial need. The school’s mission from the beginning-- that no student should be denied enrollment based on financial need--was at the core of this campaign.

Mrs. Carter was happy to announce that the campaign thus far has raised $77,400,359, withgifts still coming in. Included in the total is $2 million which established the Mayor Thomas M. Menino Scholarship for residents of the City of Boston who attend BC High, boys, who are called Menino Scholars.

B.C. High's retiring president's many years of service, dedication and leadership as a teacher, principal and president and acknowledges his foresight and commitment to Jesuit education. The scholarship willbe awarded annually to students with financial need.

Mrs. Carter thanked the more than 250 alumni, friends, faculty, parents and students at the dinner
but she especially thanked the four chairmen who headed the campaign:
John Murphy '67 of the Back Bay and Hingham, “One of the top five donors to the campaign who single handedly raised nearly $1 million to honor the Reverend J. Donald Monan, SJ with our new Baseball Park. John helped strategize in the early stages of the campaign, advised and counseled on multiple gifts and has been an advocate for ensuring endowment growth, while supporting the Fund for BCH initiatives.”
