Canton Boy Saves Grandfather Suffering A Stroke While Driving

"There's a medical emergency, and at the same time I was steering the wheel with one hand, avoiding crashes," Benjamin Bubis told WHDH.

CANTON, MA — A 12-year-old Canton boy is being lauded as a hero after leading his grandfather to safety, who had a stroke while driving on a busy highway.

It was 4:30 p.m., on Tuesday. Boris Hutorin, 71, of Norwood, was driving his grandson, Benjamin Bubis to soccer practice when all of a sudden, Hutorin's BMW slowed down dramatically, Bubis told the Boston Herald. Hutorin was having a stroke. With one hand on the wheel, Bubis called his mother, who told him to call 911.

“I told them what’s happening, that there’s a medical emergency, and at the same time I was steering the wheel with one hand, avoiding crashes,” Bubis told WHDH.

The 911 dispatcher instructed Bubis, so he could pull the car over and shift the gear to park. The car came to a stop near Exit 24, the Boston Herald reported. An ambulance brought Hutorin to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. His doctors told WHDH he's making a strong recovery.
