Lt. O’Brien was appointed as a firefighter and EMT in 2001 after graduating from the Boston Fire Academy the same year. Lt. O’Brien is also a Marine Corps veteran, serving his country in Lebanon, where he survived a deadly attack known as the Beirut barracks bombings of 1983.

Last year, Lt. O’Brien received the Department of Fire Services Firefighter of the Year Award. He and three other Canton firefighters were recognized for their actions in rescuing a pilot and passenger from a plane crash in Westwood in July 2016.
Thomas Driscoll, a 14 year veteran of the Canton Fire Department, was promoted to the rank of captain during the ceremony. After joining the fire department in 2004, Driscoll has steadily climbed the ranks and carried on the fire service tradition in his family that began with his father, retired Dedham Fire Chief Jim Driscoll.
Captain Driscoll is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts School of Management, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business management. He then went on to complete Northeastern University’s Paramedic Technology Program and also received an associate's degree in fire science from Massasoit Community College.
"I would like to sincerely congratulate Lt. O’Brien and Captain Driscoll for their achievements," Chief Doody said. "It goes unsaid, but their commitment and service to our community is unmatched. I believe that both of these men will be extremely successful in their new roles and continue to be role models for the entire department."
