Canton Garden Club celebrating 85 years of civic beautification
CGC promotes interest in and knowledge of gardening, civic beautification and the conservation of our natural resource in Canton, MA.

Eighty five years ago Mrs. Winthrop Packard presented the idea of gathering a group of women together to discuss the civic beautification of Canton. The first meeting of the Canton Garden Club took place at Mrs. Dean Luce’s house on May 2o, 1930. Still gathering today, the Canton Garden Club meets monthly to promote interest in and knowledge of gardening, civic beautification and the conservation of wildlife and natural resources.
Through the years, the club has grown and continues to support the civic beautification of Canton. As a club we plant and maintain the “Welcome to Canton” boxes around town, the historic troughs at the Historic Society and two major intersections in Canton. Annually for Arbor Day the club plants a tree to promote preservation of our natural resources. The first planting, two pink dogwood trees, was in 1939 at the Historic Society and the tradition continues today.
Our 85th year promises to be an exciting one. We have a notable variety of speakers and workshops planned for our monthly meetings. Our workshops will teach you how to work with hydrangeas and grapevines, create your own miniature fairy garden and or container vegetable garden. Learn how to put your garden to bed for the winter or which plants go better together. In December join us to see Kaye Vosburgh, a First Grade Ikebana Teacher, in the Sogetsu School of Ikebana, demonstrate her own free style arrangements.
