The following information came from various courts in Norfolk County. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction unless otherwise stated.

Canton

Case of alleged knife assault continued for hearing in court

Michael Brissette, 21, of 140 Waterman Road, Canton had charges of assault and battery, threatening to commit a crime to kill, and assault with a dangerous weapon, a knife, continued to Nov. 10 for a status review hearing in Stoughton District Court.

The charges stem from a Sept. 10 incident in Canton at 10:07 a.m. when police responded to a report of an argument at 140 Waterman Road involving an "out-of-control" man. A witness stated that Brissette allegedly had a knife and made a threat to kill him and his wife with it. Police placed Brissette in handcuffs inside the house. He stated that he and his stepfather got into an argument and that he grabbed a knife but wasn't going to do anything with it, the police report said.

Brissette had a separate charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, and a marked lanes violation continued to Nov. 10 for a status review hearing in Stoughton District Court.

The charges stem from a July 10 incident in Stoughton when police responded to a report of a pedestrian accident on Route 138 in front of Town Spa Pizza. Police said the driver of the vehicle, later identified at Brissette, fled the scene headed toward Easton. The pedestrian lay on the ground in the breakdown lane 15 feet from his blue Fuji 10-speed bicycle after being struck and tossed the distance from the point of impact. The impact crushed the bicycle's rear tire and bent the frame inwards, the police report said. The cyclist was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Police later stopped Brissette in his car on Pleasant Street.

Braintree

Judge sentences New Bedford man to a year in jail on larceny conviction

Richard R. Cirio, 29, of 33 Dewolf St., Apt. 2 Floor, New Bedford was sentenced by a judge in Quincy District Court to a year in the Norfolk County House of Correction after Cirio pleaded guilty to larceny over $250. The judge granted 73 days credit for time served.

The charge stems from an April 10, 2010 incident in Braintree. According to Braintree Patrolman Raymond Blake, he responded at 8:47 p.m. to a report of a shoplifter being detained by loss prevention officers at Lord and Taylor. The officer determined Cirio was wanted on a default warrant on an unrelated charge. Store security observed Cirio remove security sensors from store merchandise, conceal the items, then attempted to exit the store without paying for them. The value of the items was $428.

Court moves assault and battery case to January for hearing

Phillip S. Daggett, 55, of 25 Elm Knoll Road, Braintree had charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, malicious destruction of property, and witness intimidation continued to Jan. 6 for a pretrial conference in Quincy District Court.

The charges stem from an Aug. 17 incident in Braintree at 7:34 p.m. when police responded to Daggett's address for a report of a woman on the front porch screaming for someone to call the police. Police responded to a report of a domestic dispute at the house earlier in the day. The victim stated that Daggett allegedly threw a glass bottle of alcohol at her and striking her right arm.

Court decides not to prosecute three woman in credit card theft

Amanda Cleary, 21, of 1 Thomas Circle, West Bridgewater, Anne L. Cleary, 49, of 160 Washington St., Weymouth, and Janessa L. Smith, 22, of 714 Winter St., East Bridgewater, all had charges of larceny under $250 and improper use of a credit card under $250 dismissed based on the state's decision not to prosecute the case in Quincy District Court.

The charges stem from an April 19 incident in Braintree at 7:23 p.m. when police responded to a report of a purse stolen from a customer at a Quincy bar on April 2. The woman reported the theft to police the following day and canceled most of her credit cards, but not before the three women allegedly purchased $117 worth of merchandise at Victoria Secret, $53 worth of merchandise at Cumberland Farms, and attempted to purchase over $200 worth of merchandise at Nordstrom. Weymouth police arrested the women allegedly attempting to use a credit card at CVS in Weymouth, according to the police incident report.

Case of Boston man accused in drug sting continued in court

Juanc C. Rivera, 29, of 12 Athertos St., Apt. 2, Boston had charges of possession Class B cocaine with intent to distribute, assault and battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest continued to Nov. 22 for a pretrial conference in Quincy District Court.

The charges stem from a Feb. 29, 2008 incident in Braintree at 6:58 p.m. when a witness fearing reprisals by the alleged drug ring involving Hispanic and Dominican men who were selling cocaine in the South Shore area. The witness admitted to making 20 drug purchases from the group in the past. Police coordinated a controlled drug buy into the group with the help of the witness. The purchase was allegedly made from Rivera, the drug "runner," who was driving a 1994 Nissan Quest.

Detectives then followed Rivera to Rockland where he allegedly completed a hand-to-hand transaction with another buyer. Police confronted the buyer, who also feared reprisals, and seized two bags containing cocaine. On Feb. 29, 2008, police surveillance tracked Rivera in the area of the South Shore Plaza in Braintree and approached him. The police report said Rivera attempted to "hard" swallow and reached for one of eight bottles of water inside the vehicle. He continued to resist as police tried to keep him from swallowing the contents in his mouth and used OC spray to subdue him. As police brought Rivera to the ground, he allegedly spat out a bag of cocaine. Police found a second bag of cocaine on the floor of the vehicle. During the struggle Rivera allegedly struck an officer in the chest with his elbow.

Milton

Milton man gets pretrial probation on charge of assault and battery on a police officer

John J. Twomey, 25, of 20 Antwerp St., Milton had charges of assault and battery on a police officer and disorderly conduct continued on pretrial probation until May 7, 2013.

The charges stem from a Nov. 11, 2010 incident in Milton at 10 p.m. when police responded to a report of an unwanted party trying to gain entry through the front and back doors at 20 Antwerp St. Police detained Twomey and pat frisked him for weapons, during which he made an insulting remark to police. Police said he then became combative, yelling, screaming, and using profanity against the officers in the middle of the street. At one point, he spat on an officer, striking him in the left eye, nose, mouth, and police jacket.
