Canton Ropes Course Fights Building Commissioner Decision: Report

The building commissioner last month ordered TreeTop Adventures to obtain proper permits or close.

CANTON, MA – A canopy ropes course in Canton will remain open as it appeals the building commissioner's order to close or seek proper permits, the owners told the Canton Journal. Building Commissioner Edward Walsh said last month that TreeTop Adventures was built in a residential district as opposed to the industrial-zoned lot described in its applications for a permit, the Journal reported.

Walsh made his decision following a complaint filed by an attorney representing a neighbor of the park, who claimed lights and noise from the park has been a constant nuisance. TreeTop Adventures opened last summer.

The owners of the park maintain a 20-year-old zoning board decision indicates the entire Irish Cultural Center property, where TreeTop is located, is included within the industrial district. However, the neighbor's attorney claims the portion of the property where the park was built is located within a residential district, according to the Journal.
