Canton Welcomes New Public Health Nurse

CANTON, MA — Canton has hired a new public health nurse to help promote community health and prevent disease.

Kara Johnson joined the Canton Health Department in July, bringing experience in medical oncology and orthopedic inpatient care at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, the Canton Board of Health announced over the weekend.

She holds bachelor’s degrees in nursing and public health From UMass Amherst and Regis College.

Johnson’s responsibilities include supporting public health programs, evaluating patients’ physical and emotional conditions, investigating communicable diseases and making home visits.

Johnson said she looks forward to using her clinical experience to connect with residents outside a hospital setting and help community members improve their health.

A Sharon resident, Johnson lives with her husband and two young sons. Her interests include dancing, working out, crocheting and watching movies.
