CANTON, MA — Canton native Arielle Galinsky was named as one of the 11 recipients of Rockland Trust's 2020 Scholarship Program.

Galinsky — selected from an applicant pool of 2,000 — was chosen based on her academic performance, community involvement, extracurricular activities and an essay on the importance of community service.

The scholarship program was open to high school seniors entering their freshman year of college and who reside in the communities served by Rockland Trust.

The Canton High alumna plans to study biology at Tufts University.

"I believe it is essential that young people serve their communities," Galinsky told Rockland Trust. "In doing so, they can actively bind people together, not only demonstrating support, but also taking a stand against societal divides."

Rockland Trust typically hosts a ceremony to commemorate the winners of the scholarship program. This year, the ceremony will not take place due to the coronavirus crisis. Each student will instead be highlighted on Rockland Trust's social media pages throughout the summer.

"Despite not being able to hold our ceremony this year, we wanted to make sure these students were still recognized for their tremendous accomplishments," said Christopher Oddleifson CEO of Rockland Trust. "Each one of these inspiring young adults has already made a meaningful impact in their community and we're proud to support them as they take another step toward achieving their dreams."
