Police ID Canton Crash Victim: Body Unnoticed At First

There were police and public works employees at the crash site, but police said no one spotted the deceased Dedham man until an hour later.

CANTON, MA — A crash on Pleasant Street was cleared by police on Christmas Eve after officers found the vehicle unoccupied. Police thought the driver had run away, but now they are trying to figure out how the body of the driver, lying nearby, went unnoticed for more than an hour.

Police, a tow truck driver and public works employees were at the crash site around 5 a.m., but police told the Brockton Enterprise that none of them noticed the body of the 30-year-old man in a nearby yard. The man, later spotted by a passing driver, was later identified as Craig Casey of Dedham.

According to police, the man was wearing dark clothing, and it was still dark outside when the crash site was cleared around 6 a.m. About an hour later, police were called again when a passing driver reported that someone was sleeping on a front lawn near the crash site. Police found Casey's body, which had suffered major trauma.
