Eleven Blue Hills Regional Technical School students earn medals in SkillsUSA District I Competition

These talented and hard-working students received prestigious honors for their technical skills

Eleven students from Blue Hills Regional Technical School in Canton earned medals at the SkillsUSA District I Conference at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School on February 27, 2015. One student, Chinedu Ibiam, is a SkillsUSA State Officer Candidate.

SkillsUSA is a national organization for vocational students that helps them develop their abilities in their chosen technical area, along with good citizenship, poise, a strong work ethic and an appreciation of individual efforts as well as teamwork. SkillsUSA is particularly well-known for the competitions it sponsors at the local, district, state and national levels at which students can vie with their peers to receive gold, silver, or bronze medals for achievement.

The medalists were Allison Jenks, Norwood, bronze medal in Cosmetology under 500 hours; Jessica Yerly, Randolph, silver medal in Early Childhood Education; Kyle Hayes-Lauzon, Braintree, gold medal in Early Childhood Education; Michael Wilz, Norwood, gold medal in HVAC/R; Kendra Coy, Braintree, bronze medal in HVAC/R; Amber Murphy, Canton, silver medal in Photography; Sabina Crowley, Norwood, gold medal in Photography; Erin Graziano, Holbrook, silver medal in Screen Print Technology; Jancarlos Perez, Norwood, gold medal for Screen Print Technology; Jeffrey Cimmino, Braintree, gold medal in Web Design; Liam Corbett, Holbrook, gold medal in Web Design; and Chinedu Ibiam, Randolph, State Officer Candidate.

All gold and silver winners, along with Chinedu Ibiam, advance to the SkillsUSA State Competition in April.

There are several other events open to students to compete in at State other than those offered at the District level, as well as two freshman competitions.

Instructor Robert Foley, the SkillsUSA chapter advisor at Blue Hills Regional, would like to thank the chaperones for this event, instructors Heather Irber, Joann Murphy, Richard Spada and David Tapper, for their time, as well as the school’s administration and District School Committee for their support.
