A Celebration of Song in Psalm

The United Church of Christ in Canton announces plans for a very special celebration to be held on Sunday, June 24, featuring some of the world’s most ancient and beloved songs in new and old settings. One highlight of this
joyous service will be Randall Thompson’s The Lord is My Shepherd, (a setting of Psalm 23) composed in 1962 in memory of Dorothy Drake, former Head of the Music Department of the Chapin School in NYC. The work was commissioned by her students, family and friends, including her brother, current church member Harold Drake. Music will be led by the UCC in Canton Choir, directed by Caleb Williams, including guest singers Sarah Moyer, Thea Lobo, Alex Nishibun, and Benjamin Bouton. Other pieces will include Dilworth’s Make A Joyful Noise (Psalm 98) and a special offering by Temple Beth
David’s Cantorial Soloist, Howard Worona.

Interim Pastor Steve Washburn’s homily is Faith to Still the Storm and will respond to Mark 4:35-41 and 1 Cor 13:1-5a, 13 especially, as well as to the psalms.

The service begins at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 24 at 1541 Washington Street, Canton.  All are welcome.
