WHAT:  Did you know that oysters, scallops, fin fish, clams and shrimp are farmed right here in
Massachusetts?  Interested in learning more about these sustainable sources of healthy proteins in our seafaring state?
 
On Wednesday, June 19, Let's Talk About Food will host event exploring the promise of aquaculture in Massachusetts.  The event will look to define Aquaculture and explore the ins and outs of certification, regulation, and environmental impact.   
 
Barton Seaver, the director of the Healthy and Sustainable Food Program at the Center for Health and the Global Environment, Harvard School of Public Health will present the keynote address, Aquaculture: Setting the Context, Convening the Conversation. 
 
Scott J. Soares, former commissioner of Agriculture for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the first Aquaculture Program Coordinator will moderate a panel discussion on the promise of Aquaculture in Massachusetts featuring Skip Bennett, founder of Island Creek Oysters, Rod Taylor, president of Taylor Bay Scallops and Peter Howard, a partner in Sky 8 Shrimp Farm.  
 
Following the discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to meet the speakers at a reception hosted by Island Creek Oysters, Tito’s Vodka, Formaggio’s Kitchen, Iggy’s Bread and Gus’s Soda.  The event is produced in partnership with the New England Aquarium, Chef's Collaborative, Global Aquaculture Alliance, Island Creek Foundation, Edible Boston and The Boston Globe.
