Firefighters Introduced, Police Officers Commended at Memorial Hall

Fire Chief Doody introduced six new firefighters to selectmen, Police Chief Berkowitz commended four officers.

Fire Chief Charles Doody introduced six new firefighters to Selectmen Tuesday night in Memorial Hall. They are Douglas Connor, Lyle Chandler, Sean Fallon, Stephen Driscoll, Patrick McGovern and Keith Ryan. Parents and wives filled the Salah Meeting room and applauded the newest members of the Fire Department.

Police Chief Kenneth Berkowitz commended four police officers before Selectmen for two arrests they made Nov. 13. Two officers saw suspicious activity by the Dunkin' Donuts shop downtown. They saw two men in a car wearing masks. They approached. The car left the parking lot. They gave chase. Two other officers incercepted the fleeing car on Turnpike Street. Police have reason to believe the pair had just burglarized the shop and had done so to other Dunkin' Donut locations in the past.

Chairman of Selectmen John Connolly praised both departments for their work on the two-vehicle accident on Turnpike Street Sunday night. It involved a passenger car and an ambulance. The Fire Department extracted three people from the wreckage. The Police Department diverted traffic from the scene and prepared a helicopter landing area at 555 Turnpike Street. Two of the three involved in the accident were med-flighted to Boston Medical Center. Police have charged the driver of the car with recklessness.
