Foxborough Golf Team Beats Canton High

The Warriors improved by 10 strokes from their last match to defeat Canton 167-175.

Improving from their performance the previous day against Stoughton, the Warriors golf team once again found themselves with a victory Thursday afternoon against . Still fighting undesirable weather conditions and a wet course, the Warriors improved by 10 strokes from their last match to defeat Canton 167-175.

Despite the eight-stroke win, it was a close match between the Bulldogs and the Warriors. With seven of eight scoring golfers scoring between 42 and 45, it was Matt Laracy of Foxboro that was the difference. Dropping 14 strokes off his score a day earlier, Laracy led all individuals with a score of 37.

“That 37 score was a good one. It was a close match until he (Matt) came in and had that low score. When you have a low score like that it really helps your team,” said Foxboro Coach Shawn Seybert.

“We wanted to lower scores but the conditions and the rain this week has hindered us. The course was very wet and sloppy,” said Canton Coach Jim Spillane.

Despite the loss, Coach Spillane is still confident in his team’s ability to compete in the lead.

“We have a deep team. We have a lot of solid players. I think it’s going to be a strong year for us," said Spillane.

With the win, the Warriors improve to 2-0 while the Bulldogs are now 0-1.

The Warriors will be off for a few days before heading to Sharon Country Club to face the Sharon Eagles on September 13 at 3:15 p.m. The Bulldogs are also off until the 13 when they play host to the Oliver Ames Tigers. Tee time is set for 3:15 p.m.
