"Harvey" must be seen to be believed in Canton

Canton Community Theatre presents "HARVEY"


The Canton Community Theatre will present “Harvey,” the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by American playwright Mary Chase, at 7:30 p.m. June 10-11 and 16-18 at the Village Shoppes, 95 Washington St., Canton.

The production is about Elwood P. Dowd, who is usually in the company of a 6-foot, 3.5-inch invisible rabbit named Harvey. The following Canton residents are cast:
Amy Delaney is cast to play Mrs. Ethel Chauvenet. She been active in high school and local community theater and was the drama director at a summer camp in the Poconos. She also directed “Into the Woods”, “Company” and “Peter Pan.” She has been choreographing and co-directing the musicals at the Galvin Middle School for the past six years with shows including “Joseph”, “Fiddler on the Roof”, “Guys and Dolls”, “Sound of Music”, “High School Musical” and “Little Mermaid.”
Bethany MacDonald is 14 and currently going to the Galvin Middle School. She has been doing theater for 10 years and has played various roles. Her favorite role was Jo from “Little Women” with the Canton Community Theatre. Outside of theater, she enjoys doing community service and helping out children.
David Palmer will perform the role of Lyman Sanderson, M.D. He started his acting career by performing short one-act plays in elementary school. He continued later in life by appearing in such stage roles as the Mouse King in Chamber’s Dance Theatre’s “The Nutcracker”, Angie the Ox in Johnson & Wales' “Guys and Dolls,” as well as a Villager/Russian Cossack in Milton Players “Fiddler on the Roof.” He also has performed with Canton Community Theatre in four previous shows: “August Osage County”, “A 1940’s Old Live Radio Show”, “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” and “Miracle on 34th Street.”
Jack Chambers will play the role of Elwood P. Dowd. He currently attends Canton High School and this is his first time on stage. He is usually found backstage for the school's productions. In his spare time, he likes to take long walks on the beach, listening to music and playing video games.
Katie LeDonne is cast in the role of Veta Louise Simmons. LeDonne played Levi the brother in her seventh-grade production, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” as well as Sarah Brown in “Guys and Dolls,” and continued her theatrical career participating in many Canton High School Drama shows. She has mostly participated in musicals, in roles such as Kate in “Legally Blonde” and Vi Moore in “Footloose.” She also starred in “The Miracle Worker” as Kate Keller. As a high school senior, she intends to continue her work in the theater next year at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Stacey Drew has been involved in theater for many years, as a costumer, talent wrangler, and all-around problem solver. Her stage debut is in this show in the role of Miss Johnson.

Sung Ahn will play Dr. Chumley. He previously played Tonton Julian in “Once on This Island,” Dr. Wally in “Marvin's Room,” Willard in “Footloose,” and other productions in Canton High School.
