Learning Circle's Summer Science and Arts Program Registration

Learning Circle is now accepting registrations for the 2019 Summer Science and Arts program.

Learning Circle Preschool’s Summer Science and Arts program lasts six weeks, June 10 - July 18, 8:30-12:30 Monday-Thursday. There are both two-day and four-day options.

The summer program at Learning Circle Preschool offers enriching experiences that take advantage of the school’s location near the Blue Hills Reservation and features a spacious outdoor play area and well-furnished, state-of-the-art classrooms. Learning Circle teachers, all highly experienced, have developed a creative curriculum with special focus on the creative arts and natural sciences. Small class sizes and individualized attention, and a nurturing and safe environment, make Learning Circle a place where children have the time and opportunity to explore and grow.

Each day the program includes time for children to participate in visual arts and music/creative movement classes, small group science and observation experiences, and time for snack, free play activities, and outdoor play.

The curriculum encourages children to develop their innate curiosity about the world, to pose questions and to search for answers to those questions. They observe, communicate about their observations, compare, and organize as they investigate, solve problems, make decisions, and do research. By encouraging children to draw, write about, or use arts materials like paints or clay outdoors, children document their understandings, interests, and feelings about their relationship to the natural environment around them. To further support the creative arts outdoors, children use our outdoor stage for musical or dramatic creative expression, and for puppetry and pretend. Children also have opportunities to construct with a variety of outdoor blocks, and investigate physical properties through ramp play, and use of water pumps and other systems.

Children enrolled in the summer program will also be planting vegetables and tending our school gardens as they participate in this year’s implementation of The Early Sprouts curriculum. Early Sprouts is a “seed to table” gardening and nutrition curriculum first developed at Keene State College in New Hampshire. These vegetables will be used in healthy recipes throughout the year.
