Local actors bring Irish comedy "A Wake in the West" to Irish Cultural Centre in Canton

CANTON: Life, death, and a little amateur dentistry will be explored in the Irish Cultural Centre Drama Group's upcoming production of "A Wake in the West." This comedy by Irish playwright Michael J. Ginnelley illustrates village life during a particularly dramatic time  - the death of one of its most infamous citizens.

It can only be assumed that the play's author, who hails from rural Mulranny, near Westport in Co Mayo, must have drawn on some of the characters in his own neighborhood for inspiration.
The town doctor, the local parish priest, a busybody neighbor, the dutiful daughter of the deceased, and her ex-pat brother all make their appearances in a clash of uproarious comedy.

"A Wake in the West" has delighted sold-out crowds in Ireland, England, Australia and the US since it was first produced. The ICCNE production, directed by Ann Donnay of Milton also features: Imge Ceranoglu, John O'Connor, and Regina Kennedy of Milton; Peggy Joyce of Foxboro; George Harris and Tom Carty of Dedham; Michael Kerr of Roslindale; Mike Brodigan of Canton; and Linda Klaholz.
