Project SAVE - MLK Day Competitions and Career Night
Project SAVE organizes competitions and career night for high school and middle school students in Canton Public Library for MLK Day

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. and spreading his message among youth, we are planning to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with lectures, competitions focused on the issue of substance abuse and also a career night for high school and middle school students from all communities where they can interact with professionals and find about the job opportunities.
The purpose of this program is to spread the awareness about substance abuse and prevention, to encourage community service in the local communities, and to bring people together to focus on service to others.

Ongoing event prior to MLK Day and assembly:
Project SAVE is organizing a contest open to students from all schools. A maximum of two (2) students are allowed to work together on the same entry. Only one entry per student is allowed. The theme of the contest
will be substance abuse prevention and empowerment, and entries can be submitted in any of these mediums below:
1. Photograph
2. Artwork (any medium)
3. Short story
4. Creative non-fiction
5. Memoir
6. Poem
7. Essay
8. Short film (under 5 minutes)

The submission deadline is January 9, 2018. All entries must be emailed or shared to projectsave1718@gmail.com. All artwork must be scanned, as no physical copies will be judged.
Submissions must include student(s) names, student grade and school name. There will be multiple cash prizes to the winners. All winners will be notified by January 12, 2018. Winners can receive their prizes at an evening ceremony at the Canton Public Library Community Room (786 Washington Street, Canton, MA) from 3 PM to 5 PM on January 12, 2018. Refreshments will be provided at the ceremony.
Career Night: 3:00 PM, Canton Public Library Community Room
Project SAVE will organize a career night for high school and middle school students on January 12th, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Canton Public Library Community Room. Around six panelists from
diverse professional backgrounds will speak about their experiences in their education and career. Refreshments will be available following the event.
Panelists:
· Dr. Roopali Gandhi: Associate Director of US Medical Affairs at Sanofi Genzyme; Assistant
Professor of Neurology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School
· Lisa Guo: Project Manager, Reebok
· Pascal O’Connor: Artist and Professional Carpenter
· Vijay Addanki: Project Management Director, State Street
and others
Tentative Schedule:
3:00 PM to 3:30 PM: Each panelist will speak about their profession and experiences
3:30 PM to 4:15 PM: Panelists will answer specific questions about their presentations
4:15 PM to 4:30 PM: Panelists will answer general questions about their field of study
4:30 PM to 5:00 PM: Awards for contests will be distributed
