Residents Invited To Help Shape Canton's Future
The workshop is open to all ages, and the committee plans for it to be the first of many over the next several months.

CANTON, MA — Local government officials want community input on where to take the town in the future. The town's Master Plan Steering Committee is hosting a public workshop at the Canton Public Library Thursday, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The workshop is open to all ages, and the committee plans for it to be the first of many over the next several months. Ideas at these meetings will be used to update and develop a master plan for Canton's future.
“This is really not up to us; it’s up to the town,” David McCarthy, Master Plan Steering Committee chairman and Canton Planning Board member told the Canton Citizen.

The Canton Master Plan, according to a steering committee press release, is a community-driven plan that lays out a long-range vision for the town's future and creates steps to reach that vision.
“It is comprehensive,” the press release adds, “addressing all aspects of life in Canton — our neighborhoods, where we shop, parks and playgrounds, public services, historic sites and buildings, local employers, and even how we get around town.”

The current iteration of the master plan was completed in 2004 and has been used to guide both policy and development decisions in Canton over the past 15 years. According to Town Planner Laura Smead, many goals in the previous plan have either been completed or are no longer applicable.
