Shaw's Worker Injured in Store Fire

The Canton supermarket will be closed for the next five to seven days because of damages caused by the fire.

Shaw’s Supermarket in Canton was forced to close after a fire broke out in the store Wednesday morning.

An employee was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and was released, said Jeff Gulko, public affairs manager of Shaw’s Supermarkets.

The store will be closed for the next five to seven days, an employee said.

The fire occurred overnight in the produce department. The heat of the fire caused the sprinklers to go off, creating a significant amount of water damage, Gulko said.

“Cleanup is currently underway,” he said.

There is no external damage to the store.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire. The cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious, Canton Fire Chief Charles Doody told NECN.

Customers who made special orders can pick up their orders at Shaw’s in Sharon. Staff was added to the Sharon store while the Canton store is restored, Gulko said.
