What is Sugar Doing to your Skin?

Everyone knows that sugar can be harmful to your waist line but did you know that sugar can also damage your skin?  This article from Skin Inc. explains how an overabundance of sugar in the body can lead to sugar molecules and protein molecules combining in a process called cross-linking. The new sugar proteins are called Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs). Our bodies do not recognize AGEs and will send antibodies to fight them. This results in inflammation and because AGEs gravitate towards the collagen and elastin in our skin, our faces are adversely affected by the inflammation.

What can you do to fight the signs of aging due to glycation? Use products specifically designed to fight damage caused by AGEs such as our product of the month, A.G.E Interrupter by Skinceuticals. This product combines blueberry extract (a powerful antioxidant), phytosphingosine (an anti-bacterial lipid that has anti-inflammatory properties), and Proxylane (a patented anti-aging ingredient that increases skin density and firmness while stimulating collagen).

A.G.E  Interrupter should be used morning and night, after cleansing and before adding moisturizer.   Perfect for dry and sensitive skin, this anti-aging treatment is a powerful way to fight the signs of early aging due to glycation.
